THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF UNEMPLOYMENT ON THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY:
A CASE STUDY OF EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE, NIGERIA
ABSTRACT

This project work is on the causes and effects of unemployment in Nigerian economy. A case study of Egor Local Government Area of Edo state. The need for this study comes up because of the alarming number of the unemployed people in the country. Concerning methodology, the researcher used the unemployed people questionnaire which was administered to the respondents and were completed on the spot and collected by the researcher and transformed into frequencies with the use of simple percentages the study observed that unemployment brings about hardship in Egor local government area of Edo state, it brings about decrease the national output as a research of the wastage of human resources and unemployment bring about frustration among the people of Edo state where by those who are qualified cannot got job. Based on this finding, the following recommendations are made o assist government reduce high rate of unemployment. Some of this recommendation is as follows; government should create job opportunity thereby establishing so many industries to cater for the people government should mobilize private or foreign investors to invest in the country.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
          Unemployment has become so visible in the developed countries that the economist and politicians cannot do without seeking its causes and its alleviation. Naturally they wonder whether income distribution would be improved if only the unemployed were to be employed. Unemployment is no limited to labour but extended to all resources inputs, unemployment and employment often considered only in relation to labour, unemployment as we shall see takes different forms of causes in all society there are people, who children of school age and the sick.
          To determine the unemployment rate, it is necessary to define the labour force which is employed and unemployed in the society. This influences the human environment the impact of the unemployment was not initially felt In the society because of the oil boom in the country. Unemployment in a particular economy can affect the economy stability of the nation especially politically and otherwise. It is also about under utilization of human and material resources a reduced aggregate demand for goods and services as well as a like frustration, depression acts of delinquency and increase in the rate of al sorts of crime.
          According to the advances learners’ dictionary, unemployment is the number of people without a paid job”. Unemployment generally is a situation in which persons who are willing and able to work are not employed. Unemployment therefore, means that a person capable of and willing to work is unable o find suitable paid employments in the production of goods and services required in the community society.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
          The researcher makes it very relevant to look at the issue of unemployment as it’s relates to the following areas;
1.    Availability of well planned educational structure.
2.    Improper utilization of government revenue.
3.    Lack of investment by the citizen.
4.    Government negativity agricultural sector.  
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
          The objectives of the research is part forward in finding the causes and effect of unemployment of the Nigeria economy taking Egor local government area of Edo state as a case study the objectives of this work will be analyzed on the following;
i.             To identify the definition of unemployment.
ii.            To examine he various types of unemployment.
iii.           To identify the causes of unemployment in Nigeria economic growth.
iv.          To provide a possible way of reducing unemployment.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
          The study of the causes and the effects of unemployment on Nigeria economy are extremely great due to the fact that it has a big effect on our nation. The rate of crime is increasing rapidly because of unemployment when people are unemployed a lot of thought always come to them. There is absolute need to discover solution in other to alienate or reduce this infirmity which is eating deeply into our economy.
          Those that are employed have a lot of dependant to cater for. So many graduates are roaming the street without jobs and those have jobs are poorly paid or rewarded for the services rendered. The resources in our society should not be under utilized rather it should be effectively criticized so as to create an avenue for employment opportunity.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY  
          This research work tries to analyze and verifies the effect and causes of unemployment in our economy; the following are the purpose of this research;
1.    To examine the causes of unemployment in our economy.
2.    To examine the effect of unemployment.
3.    To analyze and clarify unemployment in our economy.
4.    To provide a possible way of reducing unemployment.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
          The research had some limitation, due to the sort time frame of this work materials and financial constraints. This study was carried out in Egor local government area of Edo state, besides these limitation researches is carried out along with teaching constituted a limitation
